Nissin Foods Do Brasil Ltda.

Plastic Recycling

Nissin Foods do Brasil is working to meet Brazil's National Solid Waste Law targets, increasing waste recovery. By 2025, our goal is to recover 2,170 tons of waste, and we also have a pilot project to recover 10 tons of flexible packaging by December 2025 to improve recycling and create valuable products.

National Solid Waste Law – Brazilian law that establishes that waste-generating companies must recover a percentage of the volume of waste put into circulation. This percentage has been gradually increased over the years. The current recovery target is: 32% for São Paulo, 31.25% for Minas Gerais, and 30% for other states. To make this recovery possible, Nissin Foods do Brasi rely on the support of cooperatives spread throughout Brazil, as shown on the map below. As a result, the waste was recovered as follows:

•2018: 853 ton (22%)
•2019: 1246,67 ton (22%)
•2020 : 1373,14 ton (22%)
•2021 1397,95 ton (22,5%)
•2022: 1390 ton (22,5%)
•2023: 1696,6 ton (30%)
•2024: 2170,47 ton (32%)
Additionally, in 2025 we are running an initiative to recover 10 tons of post-consumer flexible packaging, with the aim of strengthening the recycling chain for this type of material. The goal is to encourage cooperatives to separate this material for recycling, since it does not attract interest due to its low added value. With this initiative, Nissin encourages the collection of this material to transform it into a high added value product, such as benches, displays, trash cans, tiles, etc. This pilot project is still in progress and has already recovered 7 tons of flexible packaging materials. It is scheduled to run until December 2025.
