Event Report
Knowledge Sharing
For knowledge sharing, Professor Adam Drewnowski from the University of Washington gave an online lecture about topics such as nutrition profiling techniques that have been attracting attention in recent years and policy trends. Food nutrition and health is one of the key topics for the industry, and the participants raised many questions. This was followed by Mr. Takeshi Kawashima from the Sustainability Development Division of NISSIN FOODS HOLDINGS giving a briefing on the situation around the plastics issue and Monde Nissin from the Philippines introducing the state of regulations in the country. Amid the tightening of various regulations for plastic reduction in many countries, this session provided valuable insights into how the instant noodles industry can contribute to environmental conservation in the future.

Theme Discussion
The WINA Secretariat shared the future direction for WINA DAY, an initiative to encourage social contribution activities that started in August this year. Governor members then gave presentations about the WINA Challenge Target, where they establish voluntary targets to address various issues as an industry, reaffirming their targets and presenting their progress toward achieving them.
During the theme discussion, trends across countries and regions regarding food nutrition, as well as front-of-pack labelling (FOPL), were shared. The opportunity for companies that are normally competitors to exchange information about non-competitive areas (nutrition and health, environmental sustainability, food safety, and solving social issues) was extremely valuable, and it was a meaningful session with lively questions and discussions.

Visit to the Global Food Safety Institute of the NISSIN FOODS Group
The next day, 20 participants took part in an optional tour to the WAVE, the research and development center of the NISSIN FOODS Group. After a briefing about the Global Food Safety Institute, participants received a demonstration of a food truck being used for disaster relief as part of fieldwork related to WINA DAY.
The two days of discussions, fieldwork, and sharing of pioneering initiatives by the member companies provided as an opportunity to promote the participants’ understanding about international trends surrounding the instant noodles industry and encourage cooperation.
